What does Mackro do that MyFitnessPal doesn't?+
Mackro is built around the coach. Coaches get a portal to monitor their roster, set per-client goals, message clients in-app, push meal-plan templates, and run AI-assisted check-ins. Clients still get a great macro tracker — search, AI photo logging, recipes, water + weight tracking, gamified streaks — but the coach side is the headline feature.
How accurate is the AI photo logging?+
We use Gemini 2.5 Flash to identify foods and estimate macros from photos and text descriptions. It's good for portion-size estimates and label scanning; it's not a substitute for a precision food scale when training for a stage. We display the AI's read for review before logging so you can correct it.
Will my photos be kept or used to train AI models?+
Photos are sent to Google Gemini for one-shot recognition and are not retained for model training. We compress images client-side to 512×512 before they leave your device. See our subprocessor list for the full data flow.
Do clients need to pay too?+
No. The free tier is genuinely usable for clients with a coach — 200 photo logs, 200 text logs, and unlimited recipe parses per month. Premium (£4.99/mo) bumps limits and removes most ads. Coaches pay for the coaching tools.
What if I want to leave my coach?+
You can detach from a coach at any time from Settings → Coach portal. Your data stays with you (the client account); your coach loses access to your logs from the moment you leave.
How do you handle GDPR?+
We're UK-based and the app is GDPR-compliant by design. Coaches can export any client's data on request from the audit log surface, and clients can delete their account in-app — all data is permanently removed within 30 days. See our Privacy Policy for the data-retention details.
When will it launch?+
Closed beta with hand-picked coaches first; public launch on iOS + Android after that. Join the mailing list below to be notified when we open it up.
What devices is it on?+
iPhone (iOS 16+) and Android (Android 9+). React Native + Expo, so feature parity across both. We'll add an iPad layout once we hit 1k coaches.
Can I switch between coach plans?+
Yes — change anytime from Settings → Subscription. Up- or downgrades take effect at the next billing cycle. You won't lose data or client relationships.
